Description of the book: Shaun knows who put him inside – and he wants to make her pay…

Shaun Halloran wouldn’t be in prison if glamorous Kat White hadn’t taken his gun. Pictures of the stunning blonde are plastered all over his cell. As soon as he can escape, she’s dead. But with his criminal empire crumbling, he can’t trust anyone.

Kat, panicked by poison pen letters, has nowhere to turn. Her parents are dead and her brother is ill. Even her sexy new business partner may not be what he seems. When she receives life-changing news, vodka is the only answer…

A tense crime thriller with plenty of twists, “The Grass Trail” races through Birmingham, London and the former Soviet Union – tempting you to turn each page.

“You’ll take over East West Bridges when Marty retires, won’t you?” Kat asked.

“I hope it’s soon.” Tim’s face darkened. “Because otherwise, I’m striking out on my own. No matter what.”

Kat had a brainwave. It was as simple as it was clever, and she was amazed she hadn’t thought of it before. Just as her father had used Marty as a distributor, she could become successful by working with a well-networked salesman – a man like Tim. With him on her side, she could steal market share from Snow Mountain. At last, she would have her revenge on Marty, hitting him where it hurt: his wallet.

“I may be able to help,” she said. “How would you like to work with an emerging craft vodka brand? I bet you’ve got lots of contacts. You could be telling them about an alternative to Snow Mountain. In fact, you could start right now, when you’re visiting customers like Richie. Marty doesn’t need to know.”

“Just as well, because Dad wouldn’t be impressed,” Tim said. “Tell me more about this new brand. Who’s making it?”

“I am,” Kat said, adding, “It’s my heritage.” She wasn’t totally throwing caution to the winds. Although Marty Bridges might suspect she planned to compete with him, there was nothing he could do about it. She could afford to risk Tim relaying their conversation to his father.

Tim stared for a moment, then grinned “I could see you liked vodka when I walked through the door tonight, but I wasn’t expecting this. Let’s swap phone numbers. I’ll give you a call.” He looked at his watch. “Did I hear you say you needed a lift home? I can help out there.”

“There’s no need,” Kat said. While she’d told him about her vodka, she didn’t trust Tim enough to show him where she was making it. She’d based herself in a property that Marty owned and rented to her brother. Erik was pathetically grateful for the flat; he didn’t want Marty to know she was both lodging there and had set up a still.

Tim rose to his feet. “I’ll walk you to the taxi rank, anyhow,” he said. He placed a hand lightly on her lower back as they left the club.

Safe in her taxi, Kat mused about that touch, his eyes, and the pang of desire that had surged through her. Ten years ago, Tim had seemed impossibly old. Now, the seven year age gap meant nothing. However, he was Marty Bridges’ son. It must be the drink telling her he could be either a suitable life or business partner. In an instant, she regretted giving him her telephone number, and resolved to ignore his calls.

Copy of Helen_Author_38.jpgAbout the author: English thriller writer AA Abbott’s real name is Helen Blenkinsop, but like JK Rowling, she wanted to. She loves city life, having lived and worked in London, Birmingham and Bristol. Her crime thrillers, set in Birmingham and London, sizzle with suspense, twists and the evils of office politics.

Helen’s books are available in a dyslexia-friendly large print as well as standard paperback and Kindle editions.

Her Trail Series follows the fortunes of glamorous blonde Kat White, a party girl who finds her purpose making vodka, shrewd businessman Marty Bridges, and manipulative East End crime lord Shaun Halloran.
