What I learned from this book: I learned to appreciate London more.
Description of the book: What if you couldn’t get away from the one who got away?
This December, unlucky-in-love Jess is following her dream and moving to Notting Hill. On the first night in her new house-share, she meets Alex, the guy in the room next door. They don’t kiss under the mistletoe, but there’s still a spark that leaves Jess imagining how they might spend the year together – never mind the house rule against dating…
But when Jess returns from her Christmas holiday, she finds Alex has started seeing Emma, who lives on the floor above them. Now Jess faces a year of bumping into the man of her dreams – and, apparently, the woman of his.
Jess is determined to move on and spend the year falling in love with London, not Alex – but what if her heart has other ideas?
How this book made me feel: It is going to be a review of an Audio Book, that was very kindly provided by Avon for me to review. 🙂 I really enjoyed listening to it. 🙂
The protagonists of this novel are Jess and Alex, and the whole story is told from their perspectives. Jess moves to London from Bournemouth to pursue her dream of working in publishing. I really liked Jess, I liked her personality and her bravery to pursue something new in a completely different environment. I really liked listening to her thoughts about her family, friends, and of course, Alex. Alex left his well-paid job as a lawyer to qualify as a nurse because that’s what his heart wanted, costing him constant nagging from his family and losing his long-time girlfriend. He really annoyed me at times because he was very indecisive. He wanted one thing from life, but was acting completely differently. I really liked all Jesse’s friends, they were so different and interesting to read about.
The events of one year, were described in this novel. It all starts in December, and I absolutely loved the way Rose Curtis described the atmosphere. She has a great eye for the picturesque views, and she really made me love London even more. 🙂 The narrative did not have many turns or twists but was easy flowing with day to day life. We get to know not only the main characters, but their friends as well, and they play quite important parts throughout the book.
I simply have to rave about the narrators who worked on this audiobook, they were simply magnificent! It was like listening to a play, they made the characters alive by using appropriate accents (Glasgow), different moods, and they simply gave each character a personality, and I think that was amazing! 🙂 (I have to admit, I would’ve given a lower rating if I would’ve read it myself.) The ending of the book was quite predictable, but it left me very satisfied with the outcome.
To conclude, it is not an all Christmasy book, but it has a very realistic romance story, filled with friendships, family and laughter. I would recommend it to all romance book lovers, or if you are looking for something easy and enjoyable. And if you have a chance to listen to the audiobook, do give it a go, the narrators have done a really great job on this book. I hope you will like it as much as I did. 🙂
Thank You for Your time! ❤
